From March 27 to April 9, 2026, Valencia’s coastal neighborhoods—Cabanyal, Canyamelar, El Grau, and La Malva-rosa—transform into a vibrant tapestry of faith, tradition, and maritime heritage during the Semana Santa Marinera. Declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, this unique Holy Week stands out for its seafaring character and deep-rooted customs, distinguishing it from other Spanish Easter celebrations.
Originating in the 15th century among local fishermen, the Semana Santa Marinera has evolved into a significant cultural event. Holy Thursday, the Holy Burial Procession on Good Friday, and the Resurrection Parade on Easter Sunday are some of the central events of this festival, which permeates places such as the beach and private homes where the religious images are carried throughout the week. Today, up to 31 brotherhoods, confraternities, and associations participate, reflecting a rich tapestry of history and devotion.
