From April 11 to 20, 2025, Valencia’s coastal neighborhoods—Grau, Cabanyal, and Canyamelar—transform into a vibrant tapestry of faith, tradition, and maritime heritage during the Semana Santa Marinera. Celebrating its centenary this year, this unique Holy Week stands out for its seafaring character and deep-rooted customs, distinguishing it from other Spanish Easter celebrations.
Originating in the 15th century among local fishermen, the Semana Santa Marinera has evolved into a significant cultural event. In 1924, the establishment of the Hermandad de la Santa Faz marked a pivotal moment, introducing new elements to the festivities. Today, over 30 brotherhoods and 80 processions participate, reflecting a rich tapestry of history and devotion.
