The Canary Islands through their greatest festival: the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, held in the capital of the largest island and regarded as the second-biggest carnival in the world. Santa Cruz is twinned with Rio de Janeiro, and in 1987 a Celia Cruz concert drew more than 250,000 people, a Guinness record for an outdoor plaza.
